Deer Hunter, The (Special Edition)
£17.99
Winner of 5 Oscars, Michael Cimino’s Vietnam veteran masterpiece is re-released here as a Special Edition that includes interviews with the director and most of the principal cast. Michael, Nick, and Steven (Jon Savage) are three buddies from the steel mill town of Pittsburgh where they hang out in a local bar and enjoy deer-hunting at the weekends. Michael (Robert De Niro) and Nick (Christopher Walken) are also both in love with Linda (Meryl Streep), whose loyalties seem divided. However, their peaceful lives are soon to be shattered when they are enlisted in the airborne infantry to fight in Vietnam. After celebrating a goodbye at Steven's wedding they leave for South East Asia, eventually falling into the hands of the enemy. Despite their escape and subsequent return home, their lives are forever changed by their brutal experiences as POWs, typified by the now legendary Russian Roulette sequence. Also stars John Cazale and George Dzundza.
